Ideas To Help Reorganize Your Kitchen

The kitchen, for most of us, is the heart of the home. In fact, as the epicenter of the home, the kitchen is one of the most important rooms when it comes to the resale value of your home. However, for many homeowners, the kitchen can also be characterized by clutter, crowded cabinets, and general disarray. If you've been trying to find ways to reorganize your kitchen without a costly remodel, here are a few quick ideas.
  • Repack Dry Goods:  Most packaged food products can be more space efficient when removed from their original packaging and placed in stackable plastic containers.
  • Free The Spices:  Don't waste cabinet or drawer space on your spice collection. Spices should be handy near the stove, so install a wall rack in a convenient location. Be careful to avoid spots that will get too much heat, as this can affect the flavor of some spices.
  • Hang Them Up:  Hanging pot racks can both free up your cabinet space and add a chef's touch to your kitchen. If you decide against a full pot rack, consider ways to hang utensils out in the open. Preassembled racks can be attached to the cabinet undersides to accommodate your stemware as well.
  • Tailor Your Cabinet ShelvesMeasure your stacked dishes to find the exact height needs of your shelving, and use adjustable shelves to avoid wasting space.
  • Add Simple StorageMost kitchens have room for small shelves between the counter space and cupboards that can store dry goods or cookbooks. Pull-out hanging rods for dishtowels can be installed in spaces between appliances and cabinetry, and wire racks can be fitted around sink pipes to hold cleaning supplies.
  • Freshen It UpMake the kitchen (and the rest of your home) smell refreshing and clean with an easy stove top potpourri made with all natural ingredients (see recipe below).

Questions To Ask At An Open House

Open houses are an excellent way to view a property on a whim. They provide an opportunity to look through the property, and they give buyers a chance to get up close and personal, to glean as much information as they can about the property. If you're on a search for a new home, and you are looking to attend some open houses, here is a list of important questions to ask while there. "What is the neighborhood like?" An experienced agent will know and be able to provide information on the neighborhood if asked, and an open house is a great opportunity to ask. Not only are things like safety of the neighborhood, local schools and amenities important, you can also get information on things only locals will know: how the local traffic is during rush hour (and how noisy it is), if there are any parks nearby, if the community is friendly, etc. Don't be afraid to ask, and if you get a vague answer, it might be worthwhile to ask a neighbor if you get the chance. ...

The Incredible Joy of Owning Your Own Home

If you haven't bought a home yet, you're missing out on a wonderful feeling! That moment when you walk through your doors, throw your purse or keys on the floor, plop down on your couch and breathe a sigh of relief while thinking, " Finally, it's ours (or mine)! " And the joy of looking at all of your boxes, getting to roll your eyes about why you buy so much stuff, then giving yourself a moment to take a nap because you worked hard to get here and earned it! Yes that's a real feeling! We often hear, and read, about the cost effectiveness of home ownership. The equity build-up, the freedom it can give us from finances in our retirement years, and a plethora of other ways owning a home can be a positive impact on your bottom dollar. But we don't often hear about the emotional impact owning a home can have.
